Myriam Castaneda

Hola, I attended Covell after most of those who have been corresponding had already graduated, with the exception of a few.  I am so sorry I will not be able to attend the Reunion this year, but I look forward to the next one.  Here is my bio, anyway.

I majored in Public Administration and Political Science/Interamerican Studies -at that time half of my classes were in Covell and half in COP- with the incipient transition to the School of Business and Public Administration in progress. (The best of two worlds and developed great friendships in both, as well as a true bicultural experience).

After graduation and as a result of an internship during my junior year I landed immediately a full time job in municipal government - County and City/Human Resources management,  area where I worked for close to 30 years and retired from in early 2008.  There is no question that my years in UOP  and the wonderful  professors shaped the ability to work in  a profession that requires a diverse outlook and needless to say that my bilingual skills truly helped.

Married in 1986 to my Puerto Rican-born  husband, Miguel Olivo, a CPA in San Jose and had a beautiful daughter,  Gabrielle, who just finished her freshman year at UOP, School of Education- plans to be a teacher-and lived in Casa Covell last year.  It was great when she called and said " Mom, I just met two Covelianos (Julio Hallack and Martin Burt) who asked me to say hello to you!".  Two generations coming together, what a treat!

I am currently working at my husband's firm OLIVO CPA.  In San Jose, CA with its growing Hispanic population, the Covell experience continues to assist me.  We love to travel whenever possible and hopefully in our travels we'll run into some of you- this is a small world.  Extranare no ver a los Covelianos que conozco y aquellos que me quedan por conocer, como quiera somos familia!
